Why is it Important to Advance the Status of Women?
- 70% of the world’s 1.3 billion absolute poor are women
- Two-thirds of the illiterate adults in the world are women
- Two-thirds of the children not in school are girls
- 60 million women who would be alive today are “missing” because of violence associated with gender discrimination
- Women comprise 48% of the work force, yet less than 5% hold senior management positions and only 10% hold seats in the world’s parliaments
- Every month of every year, over 40,000 women in developing nations die from pregnancy related causes
Our chapter was organized in 2006 and already we have impacted several hundred people locally and internationally. We have worked with many organizations as well. Recent grantees include:

Members of Zonta Silicon Valley raise money and volunteer their time to support projects in their home communities and abroad to help eradicate violence against women, improve access to healthcare, education, provide scholarships and more. Zonta is the only international service organization focused on advancing the political, economic, social and educational status of women worldwide. Zontians work throughout the world to address the needs of women at all socio-economic levels.
The Zonta Silicon Valley Financial Fitness Program is an exciting presentation that teaches women of all ages about credit, finances, budgeting and more. Helping women with financial independence is a key component to helping women in need.
